Default 1989 260E Automatic

Hi there,

A quick question for those that know... A friend has a 1989 Mercedes Benz 260E, which is an automatic. He is having a problem with it though, in that when the engineheats up, or if he drives for a short distance, the car starts to idle irregulary, the enginecutting out eventually when the revs get low. When he parks and leaves the car for a while, it'll start perfect again, and idle fine until warm. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

plugs, wires, overall tune up, last voltage regulator,

also replace the fuel filter,

Others may have ideas as well but my 560 did that and i did everthing except fuel filter that time it ended up being the plug wires were bad and the voltage regulator was also bad,

Thanks mbz300sdl. Will hopefully be seein him tomorrow, let him know the story then. If lucky, i'll get to service the car, and see if that makes a difference.

Cheers!

Yes fuel filter first. I have an 87 260E that did the same thing but only after it had set for two to three days without driving. The first trip resulted in stalling at idle and not restarting until an hour or so.

Coolant temp sensor - if they had them then. Engine computer would run very rich if the computer thought it was cold.

Believe it or not, I haven't got near the car since i posted my query, but heading there now. Regarding the fuel filter, this sounds pretty much what's wrong, as the car HAS been sitting for a few months, since the guy changed to a Bmw...! [sm=boosign.gif]Will keep ye posted later...

Thanks for all replies.
