1986 420SEL: Climate Control...Doesn't
Hi, I have owned this car since December, 2003. She runs great, and I have fixed lots of small things, but I have never got the climate control to operate satisfactorily in summer. Heat is fine in winter.
Today after installing a new battery (the Walmart battery from 1997 finally gave it up). I hooked up on the AC with my manifold gauges, and put about 3/4 of a 12 oz can in; got the suction to about 35 psi and the discharge was running about 225psi at idle, running R134A. Alas, barely any cooling at all at the vents. The suction line at the fuel cooler was a little cooler than ambient, but not much. Now, r134A boils at somewhere around 40F at 35 PSI (I don't remember the exact number) and something somewhere should be cold.
If anyone has got their car to cool properly, I'd like some pointers. I know perhaps I need the new-design condenser; however I put water on the condenser today and it made no difference.
