1964 mb 220 seb...help!!!!

Default 1964 mb 220 seb...help!!!!

I have a manual transmission on the column, how do i adjust it the reverse will not engage due to shift lever hitting steering wheel!!!

I really know nothing about your car, but if the shifter is hitting your steering wheel, I would guess there are worn bushings in the mechanism connecting the shifter to the trans. I would think there are some at the base of the steering column on the engine side of the firewall, and at the transmission. There should be no free play at the bushings.

I would also guess those bushing are available from the dealer, still, but it may take weeks to have them shipped from Germany.

An alternative would be to have a local machine shop fabricate some for you.

You may also try in the vintage Mercedes section - there is a lot of activity in the vintage section and someone there may have experience specific to you problem.

ps - i just did a search over there - seems like bushings could be the problem, and it looks like they are cheap, like less than 20 bucks.
