Default 190e 2.3-16

Hi all,
New to forum and Mercedes in general. I have an opportunity to pick up the car I've always wanted as a teenager and now is my chance. It is an '86 190E 2.3-16 with 80k miles. The problem it has is that it will pass smog at 25mph, but not at 15mph. Is this an issue of the the cat?

Also, it has a bit of an issue with its A/C system. Turning it up anything above a "1" will blow the fuse. There must be a short somewhere, right?

Does anyone have an idea if these are serious enough issues to make me walk away from the car?

thank you.

smog test is a tough one......there are many factors to take into consideration.....cat, fuel/air mixture, o2 sensor etc... a/c--- which fuse blows? blower or climate control panel?

Fuse #1 is the one that blows. The compressor is currently disconnected. With it being disconnected, the blower still works. Which leads me to think that the compressor is somehow shorted, or am I wrong in my assessment?

If the compressor is disconnected at the compressor, it can not short out due to no power or ground supplied to or from the compressor. i take it you are missing the fuse card in the box.....If this is so, you will need to find what is on fuse 1. If the blower works on all speeds with the fuse blown then you are in the wrong place.....You really need to find what is on that fuse...Also is it ONLY fuse 1 that blows? Many components are wired to more than 1 fuse. If you do not have access to the chart, let me know and I will see if I can dig one up for you.

I am sorry, but I may have explained it wrong.
I just got the car Sunday and the PO is a friend of mine and this is what I understand of the situation. The compressor is disconnected because if connected, the fuse will blow if turned on stronger than the first level. Without the compressor, everything works fine, just without A/C.

BTW, anyone with an extra antenna for sale? Stupid thing I did today-going through the car wash with the antenna on.
