RE: 02 cl500 stuck in park
The emergency (mechanical override) procedure is described in the Handbook. Insert pen or similar near to selector.
Are your Brake lights working?
The gear selector lever is linked to the brake light switch. It is possible that this switch is damaged (contact arcing), broken or out of adjustment.
Try pushing the brake pedal harder than normal when you need to move out of Park.
Does this help?
If so the brake switch adjustment needs attention.
The clicking noise (system relay) suggests that it is most likely the switch contacts that are damaged but it could be some other supply gremlin.

RE: 02 cl500 stuck in park
I just had my 02 CL 500 get stuck in park also. I tried shaking the car to see if it was stuck, I applied and released the parking break to see if that worked, turned my wheel and everything. Yellow or anyone here figure out why its getting stuck like that?

RE: 02 cl500 stuck in park
Have you both done as I suggested.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the emergency mechanical override on a CL.
However it wilol be there adjacent to the gear selector possibly beneath a little cover which has been designed to partly hide its presence.
If you cannot locate it call to your dealer who should assist in defining the location.
95% it is your brake switch. Very common problem.
Do the brake lights work??
