I'm in the process of changing engines on my 1980 300sd, came up with a 1984 300d. I was told it was a euro version, it has no turbo, a manuel transmission (which I very much love)This is a bear bones car...didn't even come with AC...manuel windows the works. The Antenna is even on the front. The bumpers seem to be completly different...LOL. Can anyonesomewhat confirmthis is the cheap euro version....(title listed as into the states in 1994...salvage)...Its got plenty of power with the tranny, but was wondering if I can put my bad engine turbo on it?

 

You can use the VIN decoder to decipher what the car really is. It sounds to me like it's probably a '79.

Thanks for the advice..well, so I don't get to have a turbo stick shift...it certainly doesn't need it anyway, its great for blowing some good diesel smoke anyway! Still trying to figure out what it is, doesn't really apear to be a 1979, don't think that would explain the differance. It showed up on the VIN site....with aprox year of 1980. It then described its correct color, fabric seats and mirrors. I still don't know why the antenna is in the front, and the bumper pads in the back are much shorter...and no strip connects the bumper pad. I'm missing one bumper pad...can't seem to find one, guess I might go with a whole new junkyard bumper, lol...but the connections are even different. And manual windows...chee to find parts for that.

 

I should have been more clear...the 1980 300sd....and the 1984???300d non turbo are 2 different cars

 

I have a buddy with a '79 300D. It's just like you describe: antenna on right front fender, manual trans, manual windows, etc. The difference is my friend's car has the leather interior. If I remember correctly, only the Euro models came with fabric seats.
