W123 or W201 easiest to work on?
Which MB platform is the best for a guy that likes to do a lot of his own auto repair? I like the looks of the W123 and the W201 and would like to end up with something that I can do many of the repairs myself. I have never wrenched a diesel before nor had a MB for that matter. I’d like to end up with a vehicle that is durable and a classic (hence a MB)…something that I can enjoy for many years given the proper care I always give my vehicles.
I’ve always liked the 300 series but might opt for the smaller 190 if the durability and economy is reported by you guys to be better. The Diesels to Buy/Avoid (Pre 95's) thread was an interesting read btw.
PS – When I was in Morocco a while back we took a “Grand Taxi” to various parts of the country. Typically it was a large MB diesel (240 or 300) with a meager 300,000 to 400,000 km’s on the clock. I am impressed with durability like that (although one of my Chevy's has 180k and is still ticking strong. My daughter has it at college at the present time.)
Thanks!
