W114 diesel conversion

W114 diesel conversion
Hello, has anyone converted a W114 coupe to diesel? I love the 250C or 280C but would rather have the diesel economy. Since the OM617 was installed in the W115 300D, would it be an easy (as engine swaps go) conversion? The turbo engine/trasmission from a W123 300D would be best for power but still easy enough as factory parts would be available. The OM603 5 cylinder would have better power and economy but the engine would be more expensive to obtain. OM 603 6 cylinder too heavy? OM606 way too expensive? Please let me know any ideas that you have.
Thanks,
Ed Hall

Thanks for the information, I don't guess it would be as simple as a remote oil filter? Would the OM602 turbo engine fit? Hate to ask but low compression carb'd engine would be a pain to deal with on a daily basis.

The euro version would indeed be nice, a manual gearbox would be even nicer but they are pretty rare. I think I have only seen 2 for sale in about 15 years. Maybe the W115 300D would not be too slow or would that engine/transmission fit the W114 coupe?

Hello EHallII,
I'm from Belgium and I have done a few of these conversions.
I started with a 250C where i putted in a 200D om615, after this one i bought a 250CE and there is a 3.0D OM617 in now...
And the latest one i'm building now is used to be a 250C, i rebuild the tunnel where the gearbox is normally placed so now i can put in a W124 engine and transmission. Planning on putting in a OM603turbo and replace the oilfilter and stuff... But that project is not done yet. the 200CD and 240CD 3.0 (as i call it now in MB terms) are driving around for about a year now with no problems.
greetings

I have the same issue.
Can I fit an OM617 engine in a w114 coupe ? My carburetor died. I spent plenty of time trying to bring it back to life, but it's bent at all levels. The option of converting to Weber carbs costs as much as a diesel engine.
What diesel engine will bolt on to the W144 engine mounts. Beside the Oil filter housing which can be fixed easily, what other challenges i will encounter ?
Thanks
