Default Vacuum Pump repair.

Last weekend I dug all the way down to the vacuum pump, got it apart, and realized that the repair kit I bought was the wrong one (small gasket needed instead of disk). So I had to put it all back together, and now my brake pedal is rock hard. I have to stand on it to get decent braking power. When I took the cover off the vacuum pump, the little round disk that goes in the hole running to the brake booster line fell out. I put it back in on reassembly, and it looked like I put it in correctly, but I am sure something isnt right. I am going to have to get the new kit obviously, but what do I need to do to get the brake working right again?
Thanks in advance.

vacuum,...the power brakes work off the vacuum your vac pump is creating.no vacuum means no power assist so you need muscle.
