'85 300SD: was driving on freeway this morning and pulling a long hill, kicked it down to 3rd to pass. Wouldn't shift back up to 4th. Got off at next exit. Car started off in 1st and won't upshift. Any ideas? No slippage, starts of in 1st like normal. Reverse works fine. Engages in gear firmly as usual. But won't upshift.

Check that the kickdown switch (under the gas peddle ) didn't get stuck.

 

Thank you! Told my mechanic who then disconnected switch resulting in shifting tranny again. New kickdown switch ordered.

 

May be a stupid question, but do all MB's have this kick-down switch?
