2000 E430 sudden onset jerky upshift
Hello. I just took my E430 to the local dealer for a "Service B" at 75,000 miles. Nothing was wrong with the car at all when I took it in. One of the things they recommended was some transmission support of some kind or something like that. They said that there are two of these supports, and one is broken, and it can develop into a problem if not repaired. I declined to repair it. Within two days of getting the car back from the dealer, the car started having a very jerky upshift between first and second gear. Two weeks later, it is now doing it at least oncea day, and I only drive about 30 miles a day. I am furious because the car was perfect when I brought it in and I know transmission repairs on these things can cause monstrous bills. Any thoughts on what can cause such a problem, and on whether the dealer could have possibly done something to cause this? Thanks.
It appears that your dealer found a damaged gearbox mounting. Not unreasonable at this mileage.
In examining this they may have (inadvertently) made the situation worse. Maybe they jackedthe car underthe power unit which would have displaced the trans mount possibly.
Suggest you get the mount replaced and see whethereverything settles back to normal.
Shouldn't be too expensive.
Get a quote (limit work to this) and ask for the damaged bit back so that you can see what has happened.
Not all garages are "bad".
Stuart.

Thank you for the reply. The problem seems to have resolved itself, as the car has not had the problem in the last three or so weeks. Maybe I will get the gearbox mounting replaced anyway. Thanks.
