I have a 1984 300SD and i just want to know how to make my automatic transmission shift smooth? I tried and tried adjusting the transmission and i never get smooth shifthing. Any advice, or mersuring guage should i get.

when mb looked to import cars into th usa, we told them standards would not sell and automatics would. in germany, the engineers said"automatics? who ? why? what?????? they made automatics as a selling tool. they are notoriousely weak and the shifting is harsh. most in germany and other countries drive standard transmissions. believe it or not. if it is like mine the more you ask the smoother he shifts.in my diesel it is vacuum controlled. have you looked at the vacuum valves and the levers on top of the valve cover? these can cause hard shifts There is a tab on the front bottom of the cover do not break this.
