Towing with a 300d or 240d or 190d??
Hi...this is my first post...how exciting. My wife and I have this crazy idea to buy a 1980-1984 series Mercedes diesel, buy a small 1,800 pound camper trailer, and tow it around the US during the winter to escape the cold Vermont winters.
We have been leaning toward the 300d, and am not sure about it's towing ability...or maybe the 190 or 240 would work. Anybody know the towing ability of these particular cars...or other suggestions.
Thanks alot!

RE: Towing with a 300D or 240D or 190d??
I think between the choices, and hauling a trailer, even a light one, around the country, I'd be looking for an 82-83-84 or 85, 300D Turbodiesel. The 240D already has enough trouble accelerating onto the highway all by it's self, let alone with a trailer in tow! The 190D might be a little better suited than the non-turbo 300D!
Your best bet here would be the 300D turbodiesel. It should be able to do quite well with a small trailer in tow!

Thanks for the reply! Yea, in looking into it a bit more I'm thinking the same thing. My only concern is the fuel economy. It seems like for the automatics, which most of these seem to be, it's only around 25mpg. I'm spoiled because now I have a honda that gets 45-50mpg.
