Speed vs RPM 300 SDL
I am thinking about buying a MB diesel car so today i drove an 86 300SDL and it seemed pretty much OK considering it is old enough to vote, however a couple of things concern me.#1 at a highway speed of 60mph the engine is running at 2500RPM which seems high to me for that road speed. I can feel it shift (a bit harsh) so i know it made the 3-4 shift but i dont feel any change when or if the converter clutch applies. The mechanic who is selling it for the owner says its all normal, what do you think? #2 the SRS light is on with a bit of black tape over it so i assume it has been on for some time (tape is old and stiff) any thoughts on the $cost$ to repair that or do we just forget it.#3 There is only one key with it and its a strange looking one,is that something a locksmith can duplicate or must it come from the dealer. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. Don

Keys only from the dealer. I had an 86 300sdl and loved it! What does the key look like?Oval or more square end?Everything u descibe is what mine did. The owners manual tells u y the SRS light is on cause i cant remember!

RE: Speed vs RPM 300 SDL
Hey guys, I have a similar question about my 87 300sdl....I love the car, and cruising down the highway, it says I am going about 80 or 90 miles per hours, when I am just cruising in the middle lane with traffic.....
I know I am NOT going 90 mph, why is it saying I am going faster than I really am? Does anyone have this problem too? What is the easiest way to correct?
Help.
Tom
