Default Rough Starting

Whenever starting my 300cd in the morning or after an8 hour or so break there is 10-20 seconds of the car running very rough. I have to keep the accelerator depressed half way to keep it from stalling. Colder temperatures only make it worse. Is this average for this type of car or should something be done about it?

My 240D used to run rough in the cooler and cold temps until I did a diesel purge and replaced the 2 filters and finally the glow plugs. Now it idles much nicer when first starts up and I don't have to turn up the idle.
Hope this helps

One more thing I did was add a lower radiator hose heater to help with the cold temps here in Maine. My 240D starts at -6 and runs nice.

Can you explain to me what a diesel purge is? Previously, I have only associated that with svo conversions. Thanks a lot for the help.

Hello, Here is a link with step by step instructions for a diesel purge. Basically, diesel purge is a mild solvent that cleans out your fuel system. It really works....

And $51.80 later. Not bad for two years I suppose?

When I changed some of my Mercedes 240d parts on my car's fuel system and made a diesel purge, it made my ride smoother...

One more thing to consider about the rough starts.I just went through this with my 1998 E300TD. I was getting air in the fuel lines whichwasdue toold rubber and the advent of the low sulfer fuels. There were no obvious leaks but it was easy to see the air in the fuel lines. Good luck.
