Default oil at bottom of air filter housing 85 300D CA version

The filter is the longer type for the western states. There was a little bit of oil at the bottom and I don't know where it's coming from.

I noticed the threads on different models with same situation mentioning blowby etc.

I am wondering if there is anything more specific to this model.

Default RE: oil at bottom of air filter housing 85 300D CA version

Hi Guy,
Can only surmise the oil is coming from the crankcase ventilation system. Which in principle allows the emissions to be recycled and burned in intake of the engine. In practice, an older engine (with blowby-piston compression leakage pushing air into cr causes) excessive air pressure to pickup some of the oil being tossed about by the moving valve train, etc. This then is carried into intake. Am not familiar with specifics of your veh, but amsure you are not first with "heavy Breather crankcase problem.
If the oil consumption is minor, would not be concerned.
Hope this helps.

Retro Tom
