Default New to forum

Hello everyone, Im new to this forum, but not new to mercedes diesels. Have owned 3 others, 240D, 300TD(wagon),& 300SD. All very good cars that lived well past 200,000 miles with little troubles.
Im about to buy another one, and have two choices: A 1998 300D with 101,500 miles and a 1993 300D with 110,200 miles. Both beautiful cars and maintained by MB dealers.
Ive done some research on these cars and based on customer comments on a consumer forum, they have had numerous problems with these years of mercedes, all very expensive to fix. I intend to do "all" of my own maintenance on this car. Im a capable mech and can do just about anything.

What are the forum impressions of these years diesel mercedes(1993 and 1998) ???????? Are they that bad?? I want to put another 100,000 on the car, as I drive long distances to work each day.
thanks ron

I read some comments on Edmunds from customers complaining about lots of problems with the engine on the 98 and 99 diesels. Has anyone else experienced problems? I was hoping that this was due to a couple of people that were extra picky and had an ax to grind.
My previous experience with the older diesels was very good, with one that went 326,000 miles without a lot of maintenance. I worked at an aviation maintenance facilty for several years and when we drained the JetA fuel out of the jets for maintenance, we use to give some it to the workers. I ran that 300SD on JetA for several years, when I could get it.
