Default mercedez 240d 76 model

hello, i got the 76 240 d and i love the car it drives like a dream and it runs great but one of the problems i am having is it has the pull start ignition and wheni shut it down it runs a second or two and then dies with a little shake , the second thing is when i start it for the first time it makes a rough sound i aaumed most diesels make that sound when first started but every start after that is smoothand it runs so quiet you can hardly tell its running at all the transmission fluid i havent touched do to the fact that i read some where that on a car with that much age being a benz most tend to slip after the fluid has been changed so since its shifting great and there are no problems there i took the higher ground if it aint broke dont fix it . what can i do about the rough start and the shaking when fisrt start up???

Tune up the car. Adjust the valves, change the filters, check the glow plugs, check the vacuum system. Rough starting and idle could be poor cold compression, carbon buildup, contaminated fuel filter or a number of other issues. But the little cough when you shut it down is more telling. It indicates either a slight vacuum leak or some carbon buildup. Tune up the car and then see what it does.
