Default How to fix broken odometer on 240d

Hi,
My odometer stopped working right after a major tune-up for my 240D. The mechanic said that the odometer was broken, but before ordering another one, what are the steps I can perform myself to pinpoint the cause of the odometer not working?

The gear slips on the shaft, pretty easy to fix it, any mechanic worth his salt should be able to do it cheaper than buying a new one.

How to Repair Your Broken Odometer

I used this tutorial a few months back to fix mine, works great. However I wouldn't trust just any old mechanic to do it, it's not really wrenching. If you don't feel competent to do it yourself there are services that will fix them for you.

Mine also has the flakey reo for the dash lights. I've had mine out a couple of times, cleaned it up, worked for awhile, then quit again. Instead of replacing it, and since the lighting is so dim anyway and we all run them full bright, I just soldered a jumper on the back of the switch and they work just fine now.

While you have it out it's also a great time to clean the lense and any dirt out of the housing, and replace any failed bulbs.
