Default Help! Diesel Spraying from rear injector

This is in reference to an '86 300SDL. While the car is running it appears to be spraying fuel from the top of the rear injector (closest to firewall) where the line enters the injector.

The car was recently acquired and the previous owner claims to have had the injectors serviced recently. Is this normal, or is there an underlying problem I should be looking for?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

that's dangerous.

it's the return line.

better fix it (tighten if possible) to avoid fire.

I appreciate the quick response. So you don't think the injector is bad?

What would cause this? I just want to avoid this problem in the future.

Thanks again.

not the injector.

maybe:

* the line from injection pump going to the fuel injector is loose on the injector side. tighten that nut holding it.

** the fuel return line on that injector is broken or leaking. repair/replace that hose.

Leaking fuel is the quickest and most common way of engine fires.
And one of the quickest ways for insurance company to declare it to be total loss.
(Flood is still the quickest so far, by a margin.)

Well, I think you are al lforetting that technically diesel fuel is not flammable, or combustable. Fill a cup of diesel up and you can throw as many lit matches into it and I guarantee it willnot light. you can disagree, but its true.

ANY OIL spilled on a hot exhaust system will vaporize and become easily flamable. Travis we are looking for the worst case senerio when it comes to safety issues. Better safe than sorry.

I response to the orginal problem my guess would be that when he had the maintence performed they used the same hose and damaged it just replace them. I have been guilty of not replacing small things and causing bigger problems. Opps.
