Default Hard starting diesel with a twist

Hello all. New to this forum and first post. I've read some of the posts dealing with starting issues but most seem to address cold start. My problem seems to be the opposite. The engine is a 617 turbo diesel from an 84 300 SD.After sitting a while, or overnight, the car starts just fine after the glow plug light goes out. However, after shutting the car offthe warm enginewill not immediately restart. The starter turns the motor over but it will not fire. But, after waiting some period of time ( 20 to 30 minutes) the car again starts normally. Doesn't seem like a glow plug problem since the car initially starts normally. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion bng. Where is the shut down chamber located on 617 turbo motor and what does it look like?

it mounts on inj pump looks like vac advance on older veh.[prior to solid state] trace line to vac manifold [above oil filter] do not remove till eng stops as vac shuts it off and you will have to push linkage stop

UPDATE: I disconnected the brown vacuum line from the tee above the rear of the injection pump after shutting the motor off, plugged it back in and the car restarted immediately. So problem is vacuum switch connected to the ignition switch not releasing the vacuum imediately so fuel is not allowed to flow to the injection pump upon quick restart. The vacuum eventually bleeds down after about 15 minutes or so and allows engine to start.
