Fixed my '84 300TD Heater Blower
Just wanted to post this in case any one else finds it useful. My heater blower stopped. I checked it by removing the fan / motor assembly and popping 12 volts across it - the motor was not turning. Well after looking around on the web and the cheapest motor I could find was $75 used I figured I would take a closer look. I took the motor out of its assembly and tapped the motor shaft off of the fan. Looking at the brushes and wiring in this remarkably well built motor I could see nothing wrong. The brushes had oodles of life left in them. So - I CLEANED the commutators on the spindle with some alcohol and cotton buds and whoooooppee - the motor started working - just like that. Saved me $100. It was just plain ole DIRTY.
So - thats my contribution. This whole process was not even diffcult to do.
Enjoy - Ostin.
