Buying a 78' 300D Turbo Disel, need help
Hello,
My neighbour has an old 78' 300D Turbo diesel, and im thinking about buying it. He wants to sell it for $1500, however it has the following problems : Gas filter needs to be changed, starter works but he suggested i get a new one, and the body needs minor touch ups.
Everything else is in pretty good shape, except for minor exterior/interior touch ups.
Now the unique thing about this car, he claims it use to be a 4 cylinder, but the previous owner had a 5 cylinder Turbo built and put in for $9,000 US. He tells me most MB mechanics would think this is impossible, but it's done.He said theres only about 30k on the engine, but it says 200k on the dashboard. He also claims with this new engine, this car can fly and has about 30% more HP then the normal 300 D'sHe also said if i were to totally fix everything on the car, i could resell it for 6,000+ , is this true ? I really know nothing about the values of MB's.
On another note, is the 300D a solid realiable car? What are areas on the car are prone to problems?
Thank you guys
