Branded Title: Exceeds Mechanical Limits...
Hi everyone. I ran a CarFax on a 1984 300td that I'm interested in purchasing. It says "Branded Title: Exceeds Mechanical Limits" "An EML title is issued when the owner discloses an odometer rollover to a DMV. Rollovers occur on vehicles with 5-digit odometers that go from 99,999 to 00,000 every 100,000 miles."
Is this possible? We all know these cars have a 6 digit odometer. What could be the problem? DMV screwed up somewhere along the way or is there something suspicious about the car?
The owner has had he car for about a year. He says it runs great and there are no issues...
Someone please enlighten me!
Thanks so much!

It might be the odometer was changed or the odometer was reported not working and at a latter date was repaired and the repair of the odometer was reported to the DMV.
Are there any service/repair records with the vehicle to verify the accuracy of the odometer or showing the odometer was changed or repaired?

No records... The owner has had it only for a year and the CarFax reports the issue back in 1991. Long time ago. The car is in great condition. Very Minimal rust. Even the A/C works. It's priced right. Not sure what to do!

Well the guy who was selling this car disappeared on me. Really disappointed. I guess these things happen!
Now I'm looking at a 1985 300td turbo. The owner tells me that the car was made in Germany and then shipped to the US. Is there anything differences between the US and German models? Anything I should look out for?
Thank you! I appreciate your time!
