Default Biggest & best Pre'92 Diesel

I am considering a change in my DD.
I am looking at maybe a pre '92 MB diesel and was wondering what some opinions are on the biggest diesel sedan made that was pre '92. The only reason I ask about pre '92 is because of what I have read, that is, as a general rule the pre '92 MB's are generally a better car. Maybe some opinions on that statement could confirm it or clear it up. But what I want is, as muchinterior space as possible with a reliable (preferably turbo) diesel that has durable history like my 617. I would consider another wagon like my '82 but there is not very much rear leg room.

If it is the best, that's debatable but the biggest pre '92 diesel is the V126 body ( 300SDL and 350SDL )

Is this one of the diesel engines to stay away from if it has overheated?

Check the thread pinned at the top of the diesel forum on that one.

If the engine has overheated period you should stay away from it. There could be long term engine damage even after the components have been changed.

300SDL is a great canidate.I'd go with the W124 300D turbo personally
