Advice on E300D 1995, Idling and Auto trans
I just got my E300D 1995 Auto a complete engine overhaul, the car is otherwise running fine but when I engage into 'D' the RPM suddenly falls from 700 to 500 and the engine feels like it's gonna shut, moreover when I press the accelerator in the begining there is a loud vibration somewhere from beneath and then the car takes off. If I engage into 'D' and let the car roll a little without pressing the accellerator and then press the accellerator there is no sound. Could someone please spare some time and tell me why my RPM drops and what that sound (vibration) could be.
Thanks in advance.

You could have a collapsed engine mount. This could definitely cause the symptoms that you describe.
A visual inspection of both engine mounts should be able to confirm this.

Tahnks phil, I will definetly have them checked out. The mechanic who performed the overhaul of the engine however had checked them and this was just 15 days back. Thanks for your time, I appreciate your reply and will definetly check it out. Thanks again.
Hello,
I am experiencing something similar on my 96 e300d, have you made any progress identifying or correcting the problem? While driving my car I experience similar when I come off the accelerator slightly at most speeds, however this goes away 9for the most part) after prolonged drives.

My son inlaw and daughter have two of these cars and had the same problem with one of them, the engine mounts were spongy and shot. This would be your starting point.
