Here we go...
Just purchased an 85 190d w/ 230k mi.
The brakes are real spongy, and seem to work at the floor. What could be the problem?
The thing won't shut off- I have to go under the hood and activate the cut off lever!
Looking at the motor, the left side of the valve cover has a small (pinhole) in it that exhaust gas leaves from...Is this normal?
Also there is {no} power when going up a steep grade...
Help, suggestions, etc will be greatly appreciated...

brake master cylinder or....

the piston of the vacuum pump is kaputz.

repair kit is 601 230 01 65 (not confirmed unless you give me your VIN).

 

check vacuum line check valve also (black/white color).
