This is diesel number 4 for me (I know, abit excessive) with only 130K miles and no leaks. I have not driven it too much yet, but it has a rather strange oil consumption problem. If I run a couple tanks of fuel mostly on the highway it uses almost no oil. But if I'm running around town it can use1 quartper tankful, NO LEAKS.

It must be bad valve seals, rings, or turbo right? Does anyone have any suggestions where I should start???

Valve guide seals are the easiest to replace so I would suggest you start there. Adjust the valves while youhave the valve cover off.

 

My reasoning as well, but the inconsistancy of the oil use has me puzzled. I have a spare cylinder head I could easily get ready, but just don't want to go thru the trouble for guess work...Thanks for your input!
