300D Motor Swap?

300D Motor Swap?
My grandfather has been a long time Mercedes driver, and last year he was driving his 92 300D and ran into a tree. The crash was at 10 - 15 mph. The front of the car, in the passenger side is destroyed. The wheel, the suspension, and its mounts were torn off, and frame damage was sustained. The motor and drivetrain are ok. The car was extremely well maintained by a german mechanic (friend of my grandfather).
My questions are: what other chassis will this motor and transmission fit in? I am assuming that it is a direct drop into a 92 300e chassis, am I wrong in assuming that? Basically, I would like to use the motor and transmission in some other car, what are my options?
Also, what price range am I looking at to do so. I would be doing all of the work my self.

RE: 300D Motor Swap?
I'm sure you could swap, but rear end ratios are probably different, and transmission may also be different, but since you have the 300D, you have all the parts to swap over including computers, wiring harnesses etc. I would also think any 124 body would be a candidate providing you have service manuals, tools, the time and energy!
