I have a 1999 E300 TD w/ 110k. I have had some problems starting it the last couple days. When I start it the is a very rough idle then shuts off. It could take me 3-4 times to get the car started but I have to raise the RPM's. All the glow plugs are fairly new and the glow plug light is not on. One the car is running it drives normally. What could the problem be?

 

From what you have said, I would suggest that you look at the fuel lines, and fuel filters. From reading the forum, there have been a few owners that have replaced their fuel filters, and forgot to install the necessary "O" rings, especially the one in the pre-filter. This allows air into the lines, and can cause the issues you have indicated in your post. Good luck.
