Default 1986 190D runs few minutes then stops

Basically, I have a problem with the car running fora few minutes then stopping. The filters are good (besides if the filters were bad you would think it would sputter at higher speeds). So now that seems to narrow it down to an electrical problem (in my mind). I know there is a relay that turns on the fuel pump and I'm contemplating changing it, but really I'm shooting in the dark.

Any suggestions or it would be better if you have had this problem and know what is wrong.

I did not pay attention to the filters to see if they were black, but I read other places where this could be caused by bacteria in the tank. Any ideas or suggestions whether this may or may not be true. Could this be a more serious problem such as a head or maybe even as simple as poor gas?

I was also assuming a fuel pump problem. Are there any fuel leaks? And just out of curiosity, how many miles are on your D?

No fuel leaks. 145,000. I'll keep everyone posted as to what works.

Ok it was not that. Could it be the injector pump? I was told from a shop that this is what has fixed previous prolems like this.

This is very bizzarre. I still have not narrowed down the problem. What I do know is I cannot reproduce the problem with any certainty. The car will drive for hours, then just quit. It will start with 30 minutes of turning over and another car jumping the car. Then on the way home it is hit or miss whether it will stay running. It will run for 5 minutes then lose power...sometimes power returns...sometimes it doesn't. But either way, it will eventually begin running again. I added another fuel pump just to see if it was my pump on the car, it still does the same thing. It is not the screen in the tank because I have a dual tank veggie system. It will die on either veggie or diesel and it doesn't descriminate.

Next time it does it I will see if there is fuel in the filter. I'm thinking something is clogging or stopping the fuel delivery. I think this because it is so random.
