Default "Block Heater"

Where is it installed or suppose to be installed? How do I identify it? If it's not installed is it difficult to do?

I see the freeze plug and it does look a bit corroded. I just don't understand how the hose heater keeps the engine block warm to aid in "cold starting" the vehicle.

I was under the impression that the "block heater" warmed the air inside the block. I didn't realize that it was warming the coolant....thanks.

Hose heaters don't work as well/efficent, but are much easier to install. Hooked to the lower rad hose the heated coolent rises and keeps the block warm for easier starting plus faster heat in the cabin.

Found out that my block heater still works. Will it just keep heating the coolant or will it maintain a constant temperature when reached?

ORIGINAL: ForcedInduction

It will be on as long as its plugged in.
But it won't raise the temperature any higher than the specified temperature rating of the block heater. I don't know what the temperature is in degrees C, but it won't boil your coolant if that's what you're worried about.

Yup, left it on for nearly 48 hours. Started right away, reached normal op temp 1/4th the time. Sure is a big help this season.
