Default W202 (C220) Bose Issues

Howdy,

I have a 1996 C220 with the Bose system. Over the past few months, I have noticed a scratchiness in the sound from the right hand side speakers (seemingly the door speaker). Initially, I thought I had a blwn speaker, but after reading numerous posts, both here and elsewhere, I'm wondering in it is not the amplifier giving up the ghost. Is there a way to check/test the amp? Also, would anyone have any other suggestions as to other problems that may be causing the distortion? By the way, the LCD on the head unit is beginning to go as well, for what it's worth.

Thanks in advance!

(if you've seen this post on other forums, please forgive me. I'm only trying to research the problem as throughly as possible.)
