Default DVD NAV SYSTEM

Hello:

Great forum and as always, thanks to everyone here who steps up and contributes. It is a very helpful site.

I was browsing the forums and can't seem to find an answer so here goes....

I have a 2002 S430 with the CD navigation system.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade to the DVD unit?

Yes. I waned to upgrade to the newer DVD based navigation unit.

I have been in the newer models and noticed that the DVD based system looks a little wider then the old CD system I have so I wasn't sure if the new unit could be retro'd into my model.

Thanks,
Splotto

it can be done but the price you have to pay isn't worth it.

an additional gateway will be installed and you need to replace many components.

... for the amount of money you need to spend in order to get the DVD comand working in your car, you may as well trade your car in for a 2004+ S-class.

D2B fiberring needs to be replaced for MOST, additional Audio Gateway is needed, CANBUS must be replaced most likely, probably your instrument cluster (and steering wheel)... and all other audio devices you may have connected to your current fiberring, such as CD changer, phone kit etc.

greetingz,

BigSis

A new car.......Not an entirely bad option. :-)
