Has anyone had experience in removing their power antenna on a 1999 (or there abouts) SL500? Mine is not working and is stuck in the up position which makes it hard for me to use the cover on the car. I have open access to the antenna, but I am having a problem determining how to disconnect it from the top of the unit (where it goes through the fender). The instructions I have are very general and say "Unscrew union nut", Pull off cover, unscrew antenna lead, disconnect electrical, remove automatic antenna, remove spacer, etc. I guess my question is - is the union nut the nut that holds the mast in?
When I remove that nut the cover does not seem to want to come off easily and I don't want to force it; but even if I got it off it doesn't seem that, that would loosen the antenna enough to enable me to release it down into the trunk.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
