Default '98 e300 w/bose clarification

Ok, i have read through many threads, and I would appreciate clarification on a few issues, because i have found conflicting information

I have a 98 e300(td) I am not sure if i have a bose, but i'm going to assume it, since i have 2 bose subs sitting in the back (im perceptive)

This is my Stereo unit (halfway down) The 98, but i dont know if its alpine or becker

From what i gather, basically, its an impossibility to have a non-stock stereo

but then i found jnolte's post saying it was easy.

1. It is very difficult to change into a non-stock, correct? (short of full gutting)

2. But at this site again can i change to a '99 unit (the black at top or silver on bottom) (alpine/becker)? Can i use one of these units?

3. With the alpine/becker i have now, there is a connection for a 6-disk changer for the trunk, which i can purchase and install, correct?

4. The true reasoning for wanting a change is to hook up a mp3 player via line-in. The cassette adapter is tempermental and spueeks when the car is hot (sony cassette) Is there some easier way to add a line in connection?

Thank you so much, i've been making my eyes red running through pages, and the conflicting stuff threw me off

Default RE: '98 e300 w/bose clarification

It may help to understand what you have. Your head unit is either the Becker or Alpine; it doesn't matter, they operate identically. Assuming you have a Bose system, the head unit feeds the Bose amp with speaker level inputs. The amp then feeds the speakers in a system engineered & equalized for your car.

RE #1: It could be easy, could be hard depending on what you want to change.

RE #2: You could change to any of those units. They would all be plug and play.

RE #3: Yes.

RE #4: Here's a link on how to wire an aux line-in for your radio -- http://www.mbca.org/northtexas/audio_systems.htm

The aux-in uses the CD changer port on the radio so you need to choose which you want, mp3 player or changer, but not both.
