Hello all,

I have 99 SLK 230. There is a very sour and moldy smell coming out of the air conditioner. Does anyone know where the filter is located and would replacing it take care of the problem.

do you notice water under your car after operating the air. your evaporator drain maybe plugged. cabin filters do not usually smell, except if you smoke. but is located above your feet on the passenger side to check and may need to be replaced anyway.

 

Rerplaceing it may get rid of the smell short term but you still need to find the source. Is the floor wet? pull the carpet back and see if the insulation is wet, if so you may have some clogged drains. The filter is simple to change, under the glove box remove the plastic panel, slide the two plastic slips forward and pull the filter down.
