I have slight smoke from the back (firewall) end of the engine after about 10 miles of driving. Of course you can only see it when I stop. Oil level is perfect. Coolant is perfect. Virtually no oil underneath the vehicle when it is parked. The vehicle is in mint shape with 50,000 miles. Ideas?

while getting car to temperature and still running, when opening hood you don't see any smoke or where it's coming from? you would think it would be easy to spot. normally oil leaking on to the exhaust system would be the first thing to look for. does it still have the rubber seal at the back of the hood attached to the lower windshield cover/leaf guard? it goes all the way accross. without that, you might be getting some heat and fumes coming up there. you got yourself one of mercedes best years for the 129, should give you many years of happiness.
