Default Looking at getting into SL65

Hey guys. I am new to the forum and just wanna say hi. I am no stranger to mercedes. My mother always had one when growing up......she used to have a diesel one.....it was really huge and always smelled like fresh leather. Now the S550 that I have is HUGE and smells like fresh leather. Well so I guess a lot hasnt changed.
I am selling my Heffner TT Viper right now because I think that although dodge makes a hell of a car, I just have a hard time getting away from how well these german machines are made. The viper is yes well over 1000hp car and is more fun to drive then any other car I have ever driven. I am thinking that I want to go for a SL65 cuz they are just the baddest things that mercedes makes (next to the SLR) so I guess that I am really looking for a car with a great deal of power and am also looking for the class and elegance that mercedes puts into their vehicles.
Can anyone give me some info about the reliability stuff with this car. Soes the car act like any other mercedes when driven a decent amount. If you get a used one I understand the original depreciation is already taken off a great deal soo the sticker should be pretty even. Well please just let me know what to expect if getting one.....Any warnings also
Thanks you guys
cameron

SL65 is a fantastic car! Bad as few. But even the baddest can be badder!
I have done some software flash on the 65 engine the last years, and the baddest we go was a SL65 doing 360km/h on the Autobahn in Germany- consider some error margin on the speedo.....
A normal flash of this car gives you about 700hp and 1150 nm of torq., but it could have some more....

As I see it this car is superb! Go for it!

I considered purchasing a SL65, however, I could not justify the better part of $200,000 for a car that for the most part resembles/and can be easily mistaken for it’s less expensive brethren SL’s! Instead, I used the old “in for a penny, in for pound†logic and went with a SLR McClaren.Other than an annoying squeaky brake problem, I am pleased with my decision.

IMO, for the .2 seconds that the SL55 gives up to the SL65 in a 0-60 contest; dollar for dollar; the SL55 is the better buy! That is until you drive a SLR, not only is the design so unique that it constantly turns heads; IMO, the handling and performance are unparallel and vastly superior to the AMG’s! Which for my money, makes the SLR the better dollar for dollar purchase. Resale is another consideration; because the SLR is a unique, rare limited production facsimile of the ever popular nostalgic 1950’s Gullwing, I believe that it will hold resale value better than the limited production SL65.

What ever your preference, how can you go wrong with any of the above? These are just my thoughtful opinions, so please don’t flame.

Good luck with your decision!

Jim

I bought one two weeks ago. I picked it up because it met my three primary criteria.
[ol][*]Convertible that I could drive all day comfortably without getting monkey butt.[*]My wife could drive it (and actually would want to). This ruled out lots of fun cars...[*]It had to be fast as stink.[/ol]
The SL65 was the only car I drove over a 3 month search that met the criteria, especially the last one. I drag race a couple cars including a 10 second 500 ci Dodge Challenger that yanks the wheels at launch. The SLacellerates just as hard, and keeps pulling long after 1/4 mile. I can't get enough of that push.

I can't tell you much about reliability yet...
