Changing the air filter on a Mercedes R107 chassis 450/380/500/560 SL is one of the easiest jobs on the car, and most DIYers should be able to do it. Early models have a stamped steel air filter housing with a round pleated-paper filter element, while later models have a stamped aluminum housing with a flexible oval pleated-paper filter. There are also a few minor variations of breather hoses and such attaching to the filter housing. However, the same basic steps apply to servicing.
