Rare 1981 Mercedes Benz 280SL convertible hard top - Auto, 6 Cylinder

Beautiful 1981 Mercedes Benz 280SL convertible hard top. Dark blue with a tan interior, this rare 280SL model was imported to California from Germany in 1997 and is in great shape – both mechanically and aesthetically. It’s really fun to drive and a perfect cruiser for those sunny days. Even in inclement weather, the soft top provides adequate protection against the elements. However, when desired, the hard top is easy to install and attractive (hard top to be stored when using the car as a convertible or with the soft top option). This model also has a rear passenger seat.

This 280SL is rear wheel drive, has an automatic 4 speed transmission and a fuel injected, 2.8 liter, inline 6 cylinder engine (compared to the North American 380SL models which have a V8 and get poorer fuel economy). From my records it puts out approximately 182hp at 6000rpm, has a displacement of 2746cc, compression ratio of 9.0:1 and max torque of 176lb/ft at 4500rpm. Since it’s from Europe, all the gauges are in metric. It gets between 18 to 20mpg and has approximately 144,572 miles (232,667km).

Recent upgrades/repairs include a new German canvas soft top; brakes; fuel filter; midshift bearing, support and front and rear flex joints (drive shaft components); and spark plugs, rotor and distributor cap. I have always kept up on oil changes and only use 91 octane gasoline.
