I'm preparing to replace shocks on my '82 240D. The service manual illustrates the use of a MB special tool to compress the springs and remove them. Is the MB cersion the only tool that can be used for this purpose? I've got a good clamshell type spring compressor but it looks like it may have difficulty fitting in to grab these springs.

Anyone with experience here?
