Default Mystery lock..

Hi, I just got a '70 280 sel, and it has a round lock for a key, on the body.. it's on the driver side near the front, like near the hood. I don't know what it's for, there is no key that fits there..anyone know what it is/was[sm=bounceybounce.gif] Thanks

isn't it for pennant mounting? (a small flag pole the diplomats use).

It's nearly above the front tire, but higher up near the hood level.. somebody guessed it may of been an alarm? it's just a round lock similar to the door locks but a little smaller.

sounds to me as if it is a rather old form of car alarm. i have seen a few like this on some older caddys as well

If it looks like a lock for a soada machine it is an alarm. In the 70's I used to install these types of alarms. There should be a small box with 6 screw terminals under the dash or hood. Also on the box will be a black and red wire from a gromet in the middle. These will go to the key switch.
