Gas is so "expensive" that people are running out of gas on purpose to get a free gallon. Luckily it's against German law to do that on the Autobahn. YOu can get a big ticket, but you still get a gallon or two to get you to the next station and or exit. But in essence, you still paid for the gas and got ripped off, but not directly if someone was to try that here.

IMO it's not that bad to be acting like a bunch of crack addicts trying to get a free hit just yet.
