radar detector??
okay guys, i'm failry new here, not sure if this has been asked before. you all seem pretty knowledgeable, so i would really value your opinion.
my cobra radardetector died on me a week ago, 2 yrs old. i know, i know...cobras suck, everyone told me that, but i didn't listen....now i know from experience and $130 later.
i figured i might as well buy a good one if i'm going to buy one at all. i've been looking at the valentine1 and the escort passport9500i i think it is. i live in NJ, so radar detector detection isn't a factor in this purchase.
i've heard that the v1 gives off a lot of false alarms, and that the directional arrows are usually worthless.
can any of you guys recomend one? let me know, i would truly appreciate it!!

I count the number of false alarms when I go on long trips. I drove from Boston to Burlington VT in November. There was not a single false alarm coming or going.
I traveled down to Joy-zee over the Xmas holiday and the only alarm during the 240 mile trip was from one of those drones they place on the NYS Thruway coming off the TZ Bridge. I did spot several LEOs.. the trip was really very quiet.

go with the V1. if your a car entusiast and have a heavy foot and especially live in jersey you need a V1. I wouldnt purchase any other. the V1 gives you the amout of signals it sees up to 9 radar and laser signals no other detector can do that. I've owned a V1 for 10 years and I truly trust it. dont feel safe with any other detector, you can also send it in to V1 to get it upgarded for the latest technology. Go with the V1!!!!

well mine lasted around 2 years, died on me just recently. i wasn't overly impressed with its range. it usuallypicked up on radar when the threat was visible to my eye which was too late usually. i used it religiously for a year then gave up on it. only used it for long trips then on out.
i was never too confident with it. i've heard that whistler detectors are pretty good if you're looking for the least expensive ones.

got my V1 on friday. it is absolutely amazing. i thought i was pretty good at spotting police w/o a radar detector, this detector is astounding. worth every single penny. the advanced logic mode is a great feature too. this blows the cobra out of the water. i love the fact that it comes with both a straight and coiled cord. the windshield mount is great too...love how you can adjust the detector within the mount.
now time to save up for laser countermeasures.
