Carbs taste better and you'll gain weight faster.

Before working out every morning, I have a protein shake and after my workout, I follow with a protein bar. I am sure you get what you pay for and you need to be careful, I certainly would not want to put a bunch of chemicals in my body. Luckiliy I did not have to sift through the different products on the market. My massage therapist told me about Isagenix, http://active4life.isagenix.com/us/e...ean_bars.dhtml their shakes are my fav, but the bars are good for on the go. Sometimes, I will have a bar before I go on a bike ride, lots of energy.

Bananas are also very good for some energy before a workout, but not for the bulk.

I would definitely suggest protein shakes over bars any day. A shake is easier to consume and doesn't leave you with a full stomach. Whatever way you get your protein just remember that you should have about .65-1 grams per poundof bodyweight.
