Bicycles ARE hard to ride on the beach and the sand in your chain can be a drag to clean...

He yanks your leg with the bicycle story. He has a company car so he can say he doesn't own one. He doesn't need to own one.

i once try to conquer a steep uphill climb with my bike and need to exert more power on the pedal that i have to partially stand on it.

suddenly the chain broke and nearly got neutered when i slam hard back on the seat.

i throw the cheap thing away and get a mountain bike which can change gear

I used to ride a mountain bike off road. I got more dirt on me than on my bike. My mountain bike, like me, is now retired.

I ride a road bike now. Also a hybrid that's more like a comfortable road bike since I put skinny little roadie tires on it.

I took my Gary Fisher Mt Tam and modifyed it to be more upright. Now I ride around the small lake near my house on gravel trails and on roads for the fun of it. Bicycling is my favorite out door activity (alone).

I used to ride alot when my wife was alive. We always rode on pavement or rail trails together about 40 to 100 miles a week, usually broken into two or three days. We each did century rides (100 miles in one ride) a few times, but most often rode 20-40 miles depending on how much time we had.

I still ride, but I don't get the same enjoyment from it anymore. I keep feeling like I should wait for my wife to catch up. It's hard for me to shake that routine part of my rides.
