I tell you. If you're looking for investment in real estate, the south is hot right now, but like anything it will cool down.

Yep, we live on Fox Island in Washington state. It's another expensive area to live in, but my wife and I are frugal and we save/invest at least $15000 per year. We bought our home nearly 5 years ago for $260,000 and, according to our taxes, it's now worth around $400.000. Yet a couple of weeks ago a neighbor said it's closer to $500,000. That he would give me $400.000 for it right now, make a quick turnover at $450,000 and earn a fast $50,000.

I laughed, "Yeah, maybe if you act very quickly....Hear that loud hissing sound? That's the air from the many holes in the housing bubble. "

Well, they may not depreciate too much more.... that is, in dollars. But the dollar suffered such a huge set back under Bush's massive borrowing and spending ( now 8 Trillion $ in debt! ) that the dollar is now sliding down a slippery slope, on the verge of going into free fall.... It's devaluation might slow down some now that we've gotton rid of so many politcal gangsters... and maybe the world is opptimistic about the USA's next step in Iraq. and will keep lending the treasury the money to continue to keep the low interest rates, so people can continue to borrow against their houses which props up a false Bush economy.... and also allows us to pay our troops, etc.. But even if we quickly get Iraq all settled, it's in the best interest of Iran, Syria, Muslim fanatics, et al. to keep the Midlle East Hot....Hot M.E. = pressure on a very weakened dollar = a very weakened USA.

So even if your house remains at todays price, in real money, as measured against major world currencies such as the Euro, your house will have been drastically devalued.

BTW, you'll know the dollar is truly gaining extra momentum down this dangerously steep slope when a barrel of oil goes for over $100.. I strongly suspect the upward price of oil and other commodities will soon begin. Who knows, $150. per barrel oil might very show up by this time next year...But strong currentcies will be paying half that or less...But I wouldn't invest in the Euro or Yuan or whatever, because when the USA tanks, eventually so will the industrialized world.... You know, no more US dumping grounds...

Maybe now's a good time to own commodities.... copper, grain, oil and coal... especially coal liquidation plants....

minimum wage in West Virginia is $5.15 per hour. i do make more than that.

i make about 12,000 to 14,000 per year. my college educated husband makes quite a bit more.

if i had to survive on my income alone, i could not even afford a cheap (really, really cheap) apartment, let alone a car and insurance and food and so on. the cost of living here is cheaper than when in maryland. of course here I have double the acerage and house for less than what i was paying in maryland (valley lee).
