How so?

Well, the average income in this city must be 1 million per year or more.

A particular house mom here makes 2million doing interior decorating.

I have to have 1 mil. in liability to drive on their roads.

So comparitvely the 6 figs I earn as an engineer working and going to grad school, paying for an average house, which is 6000sq ft smaller than my neighbor's marble horse stable, makes me white trash, and they overtly point it out to me.

So whatever.
We were here first, but we're leaving before they mow all our little houses down to build their shopping centers.

Its not my intent to be offensive, but you are probably not going to be able to live in your own town on 35-45k per year. My dad made that 40YEARS AGO, with a highschool diploma working for the railraod.

Go online and search for a mortgage calculator. You type in your numbers and it tells you how much a bank will lend you toward a home, based on your income.

I'm not making fun of you; I'm on the same sinking ship as you.

All i know is that my parents combined made about 70k a year and lived on 2 acres 3 br 2 bath house, 3 car car port , 3 car garge and in home sauna and never had car payments. Now they are divorced dad lives in FL on 2 acres 3br 2bath 2 car attached 3 car detached garge retired at age 49 in 2004 no mortage at all. and Mom, her husband and i live on 20 acres and they both make about 90-100k a year.

Dont take this the wrong way but i think people in your area care to much about money i know i used to. I always wanted the million dollar homes now all i want is a nice 3/2 on 2-5 acres and a 3+ car garge that i can get my cousin and friends to help me build. Its good to have the hookup. lol

Here is a link about the town http://www.hagerstownedc.org/newsitems/top5.html

AND PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS AS A STAB AT U!!! We are all friends here.

Here in Oklahoma, the median family income is $40,000/yr and my family (wife and I) make nearly triple that amount together. Our home isn't huge, nor is it opulent..but it is on a golf course, I have a 20x10 workshop and a 2 car garage on a cul-de-sac. The lot is nearly 1/3 acre, and it is home. Not a new home...just home.

We put so much time and effort into our wants and not enough time into our NEEDS.

I didn't need an ML320, but I wanted one. Now I want a C55, and it definately isn't a need. I moved from the west side of the tracks where all the snobs are with their paid-off MB CLS55's and SL65's, and downsized, moved to the east side and have a very low mileage Mark VIII with a very high end stereo. I hated being accused of being a snob just cause where we lived. But now all is good with the world.

$60,000 is all anyone needs to make to live a healthy life in Oklahoma. $60K here is living like a king but Hot Dog vendors in NYC make $60K. So I would say the lower the cost of living, the further your dollars will go.

Well, a vendor does make 60k in a year in NEW YORK, but house rent runs you about 1,000 to 1,500 a week. New York is a jungle. I just moved to INDIANA from New York becasue, i work as a AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN making $34000 a year making more money here as a mechanic than New York and i an 22 years old. For me now its a pretty good. I get all my benz parts from Germany becasue my father travels Europe, but 34k in Indiana is survivable living single.

Nice car Sleep

I'd like to know where people are making all this money. Ownership of businesses would help, but how they get there is questionable, you need money to start. Being a CEO takes time, most are mid 40's so it appears. Possible born with cash? Credit debt?

To survive in Atlanta and in the surrounding areas, it varies. $60,000 usually sets you right. Homes are not usually that expensive. You can get a two story 3000+ square feet suburban house for around $150,000 easy (A house that would easily run you $500,000-$700,000 up north.) Where my parents stay now, they have a 5 bedroom (4000sft lake front property) and paid a little over $200,000 for it brand new, custom built. And the houses in that area ranges from (due to the sudden growth of Atlanta in the recent years) $140,000-$800,000. But keep in mind the $600,000+ homes IMO look like $600,000+ home homes but the neighborhood across the street with a range of $200,000-$250,000 look like million dollar homes. It left me scratching my head but I guess it all depends on who is contracted to build and or who owns the land and the price they sell it for. Of course I'm not sure if $60,000 will get you a half million dollar(certified mansion down in the south) home but you will find yourself with plenty making $60,000 assuming you have a slightest clue about money management.
