Earlier this week I purchased a 1990 560 SEL with 129,000 miles and flew to Dayton, OH and drove it back to Virginia the next day. I noticed that when I would stop at a rest area or convenience store for coffee and allow it to idle for a few minutes from highway speeds before I shut her down that.....upon my return she would fire right up, however, after I backed out of the parking space and got under way she would produce a cloud of smoke (oil) from the exhaust and as quick as it occurred, it would stop. I did NOT use any appreciable amount of oil in the (less than a fourth of a quart) in the 500 miles I drove that day.

My question is, would it appear I have worn valve guides or do I need to address another problem. BTW, I also own a 1997 Deville and as far as I am concerned the Cadillac can stay in my driveway.....what a beatiful riding car this 560 is!
